Blogging photography: How I edit my pictures

When it comes to blogging, great pictures is very important. It is the key to get readers attention. And I like my pictures to be the best quality I could possibly achieve. I love taking photos but when it comes to editing it can't be very long process sometimes. For my blog shots I don't like too much editing, just add more light maybe or slightly change contrast. I have always loved to play around with my pictures in Photoshop, I have learned everything myself by reading and watching tutorials and messing around with different options. So today I thought to share how I edit my blog pictures. It is very quick and easy way.

Open your picture in Photoshop, I use CS5 version. Then I would go on Image in the menu bar and click on Auto Tone, Auto Contrast or Auto Colour. This can be a miracle or a disaster. Sometimes it fixes all the bad lightning and colour problems, but sometimes it ruins the picture completely. So I would try them all and see which works better, if not I would just leave my pic as it was and skip this step.

I don't always get the best lightning, so that's where I would use Exposure tool. Click on Image - Adjustments - Exposure. You can  play around with options given in the table, but I would normally just use Gamma Correction to add more light to my pic. As you can see in the pictures below, I increased mine to 1.53 it adds a little bit of light and softness, but you can go further if needed.

I then go on Image Adjustments Levels. You can use the Levels adjustment to correct the tonal range and color balance of an image by adjusting intensity levels of image shadows, midtones, and highlights. In this case, I wanted my picture to be light and glowy but not flat at the same time, so I increased shadow levels to 7 and brightness to 5.14.

Final step is to brighten up areas, where the unnecessary shadow falls. The quickest way to do it is by using Dodge tool, you can find it in the tool bar on the left side of the screen or simply by clicking O in your keyboard. You can set the Exposure yourself, how light you want it to be and change the Range settings: Midtones - changes the middle range of grays, Shadows - changes the dark areas, Highlights - changes the light areas. The more you paint over the area with the Dodge tool, the lighter it becomes.

And here is the final result. Nice and light picture. It's a great option to retouch your dark images and add some more light to it. Picture looks a lot better and more professional.  Let me know what do you think. Maybe you have your own tips and tricks how to edit pictures? Share it with me, I would love to learn something new!
